It is easy and intuitive to add new content in WordPress. You can create either new posts or pages. Pages are static and are used to add content such as About the company, Contact or Where can you find us. Posts are like journal articles. You can tag them and group them into categories. They are primarily displayed as a list of the latest articles on the home page. It’s possible to filter them based on categories and tags.
How to add a new page
If you want to create a page, go to Pages → Add New. Thanks to the user-friendly interface, you can easily write and edit a text, specify page attributes and the way it will be published. You can set a theme and the place where the link to the page will be displayed on the website.
How to add a new post
To create a post, go to Posts → Add New. You will again be redirected to the same interface but in comparison with pages, you will be able to tag them and create categories for them. Name the post, define its permalink and write the text. You don’t have to worry about loosing power or about your computer freezing. Articles are continuously saved into the database as drafts. WordPress text editor works as the common text editor supporting basic functions such as bold, italics, creating lists, automatic text alignment, spelling, hyperlinks or images. If you prefer HTML, you can work in the HTML mode.
How to publish a post
In Publish on the right, you can change publishing settings of the article you’re writing. If you click on Preview, you’ll see what the article will look like using the current theme, change visibility, date and status. There are following statuses available: Draft, Pending Review and Published. In Visibility choose whether the article will be visible to public, to the author uniquely or protected by a password. You can also set a date of publishing. It’s possible to go back days, months or even years. The post will be added to the list of the latest articles according to the date.
Other post attributes
Besides the above mentioned, you can add tags in Tags, put the article into a category in Category or set a featured image. Allow or ban comments and manage the existing ones in Discussion. (If you don’t see the Discussion panel, go to Screen options in the upper right corner and put a tick to Discussion. You will then see it at the bottom of the page.) If you want to set attributes of several posts at once, go to Posts → All Posts where you can search, filter, delete and edit your articles.
